Newsletter - May 2013Welcome Letter
Dear Friends, Welcome to the inaugural H.A.C.E.R. Ministry newsletter! For those of you that we have not had the pleasure of working with, I’ll take a moment to introduce our organization. H.A.C.E.R Ministry represents Hispanics in Action for Community Education and Rehabilitation. We are a non-profit group that works to provide health education, informational services, a food pantry, and housing to the less fortunate residents of Palm Beach County. We offer a variety of educational tools such as health, housing, and financial services, as well as reading and writing workshops to help build a healthy community and a bright future for all. Our mission is to empower our community to take ownership of the present, so together we can conquer the future. We hope you will consider joining forces with us so together we can offer better opportunities for children and families. Let’s unite our community and improve the quality of life for families raising healthy and secure children. To learn more about H.A.C.E.R and how to get involved, we encourage you to visit our website - www.hacerus.org or call us at (561) 692-3772. Blessings, Eliecer Vallejo, President H.A.C.E.R Ministry Corp. |
Building Communities & Bright Futures
In 2006, H.A.C.E.R Ministry began as a social service initiative that was founded by the West Palm Beach Spanish Seventh-Day Adventist Church. The founding members saw a great need for an organization like H.A.C.E.R in their area, and they made the decision to join forces with others in the community to create services that specifically meet the needs of those in need.
And, what began as a small idea has grown into a movement. Our organization provides food to families in need, as well as clean, safe, and affordable housing opportunities to middle and low-income families and individuals. As a non-profit, H.A.C.E.R also provides various heath education programs and helps to create awareness on various health concerns affecting the Hispanic population in our community. We are proud to say that in 2012, we helped 3,500 families!
The H.A.C.E.R food pantry was started six years ago out of a small room in the West Palm Beach Seventh-Day Adventist Church. The initial thought for the pantry was to provide families in need the basic food items for an every day meal. Over the years, the panty has grown to include donations from United Way, USDA, Pepsi, Goya, and Feeding South Florida. In order to meet a growing demand, H.A.C.E.R recently expanded its food pantry to a separate warehouse and distribution center. Currently, the H.A.C.E.R. food pantry feeds over 300 families per month.
In addition to the food pantry, H.A.C.E.R Ministry also runs a health education and disease prevention center due to the growing need for health services in the community. The center now provides a variety of free exams, tests, and ultrasounds, through bi-annual health fairs in conjunction with the support of organizations like The Caridad Foundation and The Mission Medical Center, for those in need in the community.
Due to the financial burdens brought on for many throughout the recent economic crisis, H.A.C.E.R Ministry identified a high demand for affordable housing. The organization realized that there was a great need but options were scarce. To help the community, H.A.C.E.R sought out, purchased, and renovated a four unit housing complex in Central Palm Beach County. The housing, now called the Nehemiah House, provides affordable rental housing for low-income families in Palm Beach County. We are proud to share that this project was an immediate success and we now have a waiting list of families looking to move in!
Information and social services are provided at no cost to those in need. Services can include clothing donations, employment aid, necessary supplies, bus passes and financial assistance, to name a few. To join the call to help and support those in need in Central Palm Beach County or to learn more about H.A.C.E.R Ministries call (561) 692-3772 or visit http://www.hacerus.org/index.html or facebook.com/hacerministry - @hacerministry

Stories of success
On January 8, 2013, H.A.C.E.R. officials learned of a local family, the Ramirez’s, who had suffered a significant loss due to a fire from an electrical shortage in their home. The family lost everything – clothes, toys, furniture, even special photographs and other heirlooms that had been in the family for years. The ministry started a call for action to all community leaders, members and families to help the Ramirez family in their time of need. H.A.C.E.R created an account for the family to help them find a temporary place to live as well as purchased new items to help them able to rebuild their life, once again. To learn more about the Ramirez family rebuild, visit http://www.hacerus.org/fire.html.
In February of 2013, H.A.C.E.R. officials received a call on behalf of a young woman who had been the victim of fraud and was being evicted from her apartment. She had a small child and was 38 weeks pregnant. The organization knew time was of the essence. Quickly jumping in to action, H.A.C.E.R. found a hotel and a hot meal for the young family and then began reaching out to local organizations that worked with women in this situation. Within a week the woman was with a local shelter, was ready to have her baby, and was safe. Now, two months later, this woman is thriving with her family, is going back to school to finish her nursing degree, and is also supporting the efforts of H.A.C.E.R. by volunteering in the food pantry bi-monthly.

Help us bring food to more families in our community!
H.A.C.E.R Ministry needs your support. As we’ve shared with you, our organization provides critical services to families in the Palm Beach County community. Of those services, the Food Pantry provides much needed meals to children and families. However, as the need increases, it has become more difficult for H.A.C.E.R Ministry to provide these meals.
The ministry had grown in the community and developed important partnerships and relationships with donors looking to provide the necessary food donations, but without a truck for pick ups, many of those donations have been lost. Therefore, H.A.C.E.R is asking the community to come together and donate what they can towards a new truck.
The ministry is currently looking to raise funds for a 24’ box truck with a lift gate, which will allow us to secure much needed donations, deliver them to their food pantry, as well as assist other pantries in the area. In the end, the possibility of a box truck being purchased increases the possible families served by the ministry’s pantry as well as others in the community.
There are a number of donation levels available. For $25 the ministry will provide you with a personal thank you on our social media sites. A $100 donation will provide you with recognition and as well as a special H.A.C.E.R. coffee mug. And, for a $1,000 donation you will receive all of the above mentioned benefits plus your name will be included on the side of the truck.
This truck is key in helping us to eliminate hunger in our community. For more information on how to donate and participate today, visit http://www.hacerus.org/
